One of the great treats of the Eli’s Cheesecake/Wright College
Farmers Market in September is the fresh corn on the cob in the husk from
Nichols Farms.

The Nichols corn on the cob will be roasted this weekend as one
of the signatures dishes at the Eli’s Grill at the Eli’s Cheesecake Festival.
Enjoy the corn as well as great hamburgers and hot dogs from the

12th Annual Eli’s Cheesecake Festival This Weekend–September 20th and 21st

We celebrated our move to Eli’s Cheesecake World on World Food
Day–October 16, 1996. Every year, we host the Eli’s Cheesecake Festival on our
Campus as a way to commemorate staying in Chicago and being so active in the
community. Our 12th Annual Eli’s Cheesecake Festival is this Saturday and
Sunday–September 20th and 21st. The event is free with free parking. The event
benefits the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the New Horizon Center for the
Developmentally Disabled, our neighbor to the west.

We have great partners that make this event possible: the
Michigan Apple Committee (who brings the Michigan Apple Queen to our Festival);
First Chicago Bank & Trust which is sponsoring our Main Stage and Cheesecake
Bingo; Country Financial, Z Frank Chevrolet; Equal Brand Sweetener, which
sponsors our Family Stage; FedEx Office and Autumn Green at Wright
Campus.

We are grateful for the participation of our educational
partners–Wright College, the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and
the University of Illinois Extension, who work with us throughout the year and
who will be highlighted in the Country Financial Green Pavilion.

9th Annual Eli’s Cheesecake/Wright College Farmers Market a Thursday Tradition–Take advantage of the Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship Speakers Program

Our thanks to Chad Nichols and the Nichols Family for being the heart of the Eli’s Cheesecake/Wright College Farmers Market. Each week, Chad and his family bring a wide variety of flowers and vegetables to our Market.

Beets and Red Onions are always a Market favorite; also great when used by Eli’s Chef Antonio in one of his Thursday Farmers Market Special Lunches.

The Eli’s Cheesecake/Wright College Farmers Market is a success only because of our great partnerships. We are fortunate to have the support of Drusilla Bank of the University of Illinois Extension, and Lucille Shaw, Master Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor at the Chicago High School of Agricultural Sciences. Each Thursday through August 7th, Lucille brings 15 students from CHSAS who attend class at Wright College and then come to the Market for an industry leading speaker in sustainable food systems. The lecture is open to the public.

The inaugural speaker for the 2008 Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship Program was Lloyd Nichols, the patriarch of Nichols Farms and one of the first local farmers to see the opportunities in local famers markets. Lloyd was introduced by Eli’s Executive Vice President, Jolene Worthington, who is Board Member of Slow Foods and a passionate advocate for local foods.

Best of all, the Eli’s Cheesecake/Wright College Farmers Market is fun for kids of all ages and families.. Check our schedule out on the web at www.elicheesecake.com for our Thursday Farmer Market schedule.

Our 11th Annual Eli’s Cheesecake was our best ever.

From the perfect weather, great partners and volunteers, food, music and fun, the Eli’s Cheesecake Festival was a fantastic celebration for Chicago.

We will be posting our photo book from the Festival and thanking all of our sponsors and partners. This picture says it best as a Jess Wite Tumbler flies over the Eli’s Cheesecake Slice and over the entrance to Eli’s Cheesecake World.
