Saijyo Agricultural High School Visits Eli’s Cheesecake

On December 19th, Eli’s Cheesecake was visited by representatives of the Saijyo Agricultural High School from Hiroshima, Japan  as part of their visit to Chicago and the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences. Yoshrinori Tatsukami, the Principal, and Katsuhiro Ishii, the Agriculture Teacher and Chief of the Super Science High School came to Eli’s with Bill Hook, Principal and Sheila Fowler, the Agriculture Department Chair at CHSAS. They toured Eli’s Bakery with Mike Neuhaus and then were able to meet with Jeff Anderson. We were delighted with Mr. Tastsuakmi’s comment that visiting Eli’s Cheesecake was like the dream he had of America when he growing up: cookies baking in the kitchen by smiling family members. All of us at Eli’s are pleased that he was able to see our dedication to quality and service.

After their visit to Eli’s, the representatives from Saijvo were recognized at a meeting of the Board of the Chicago Public Schools. They also were able to tour the Farm and Agricultural Education Facilities at Illinois State University.

The Saijyo Agricultural High School is 102 years old and has 808 students. It has the goal to become the number 1 agricultural high school in Japan while emphasizing both basic and high level technical education while attracting students who have high aspirations, the spirit of challenge, affection to life and want to make a major contribution to society. Certainly a mission very akin to the work at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences.

Eli’s Cheesecake Hosts visit by students from Suwon High School for Agricultural Science from Korea

It is quite rewarding and informative to learn about the study of food & agricultural science outside of Chicago and the United States. Last week, we were fortunate to be visited by a delegation from the Suwon High School for Agricultural Science from Suwon in South Korea. Founded in 1936, the school specializes in training students for leadership in plant resources, the environment, industrial machinery, food processing and bio-sciences; career paths very similar to those offered at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences.

The principal of the school, Kang Jang Koo, serves as President of the Korea Agricultural Education Association as well as a leader of the National FFK (the Future Famers of Korea), a global partner of the National FFA Organization.

Eli’s Jeff Anderson explains the source of Eli’s ingredients as well as how an Eli’s Cheesecake is made with the delegation from Suwon High School for Ag Science.

Eli’s Marc Schulman is presented with a hand decorated fan by Suwon teacher, Sonyoung Beattie, and Kang Jang Goo, principal and leader of agricultural education in South Korea.

Master Ag Teacher, Sheila Fowler, at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences joins the students and teachers from Suwon High School for Agricultural Science in decorating an Eli’s Cheesecake to share with their host families.

On Tuesday, the students from Suwon will be attending Ag Day at the Illinois State Fair with students from the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences. Eli’s is donating the dessert for all the guests at the the Ag Day Lunch hosted by Governor Quinn and Agriculture Director, Tom Jennings on the Director’s Lawn.
