Eli’s Hosts Jenny Yang, Owner of Phoenix Bean and Interns from Top Box Foods

Yesterday, we welcomed Jenny Yang, owner of Phoenix Bean Tofu to join us at our weekly Farm Stand. She brought a variety of tofu products for everyone to try and spoke to students about what it is like being a business owner and answered questions about her company. Yang was joined by students from the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences (CHSAS) for their weekly summer visit, as well as Summer Interns from Top Box Foods, a community-based non-profit offering a variety of delicious and healthy boxes of food at affordable prices. Eli’s uses tofu from Phoenix Bean to make our Vegan Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake.

Summer Interns from Top Box Foods also visited Eli’s yesterday. They started out their day by visiting the Farmer’s Market, listened to a presentation to learn more about Eli’s and enjoyed a delicious lunch. After that, the students and recent graduates were given a tour of the bakery AND had the chance to decorate their own cheesecakes. Eli’s has been a long time supporter of Top Box Foods and loves having the opportunity to give back to the people who make the organization run.

Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences & Vaughn High School Students at the Eli’s Cheesecake/Wright College Farmers Market

Eli’s is very proud of our long term partnership with the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and Vaughn High School.

For our Thursday Farmers Market, we were delighted to have special needs students from both schools participating in the Market. This is just one more example of how programs in food, agriculture and science can benefit a wide range of students.

Students from Vaughn brought crafts celebrating the Bears first game this Sunday and students from CHSAS brought produce from the farm at the school as well as bottles of the honey harvested by the students and used in our dessserts.
