Thursday, August 27th is Tri-Colored Pepper Day at the Eli’s/Wright College Farmers Market

This Thursday, Nichols Farms of Marengo, Illinois and Piedt Farms of Eau Claire, Michigan will be highlighting their farm grown peppers at the Eli’s/Wright College Farmers Market. Red, Green and Yellow Peppers will be highlighted and are perfect in the recipe below. For those who can’t wait to get home, Eli’s Chef Antonio will be grilling Steak Tacos with a selection of Red, Green and Yellow Peppers.

Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship Program Graduation

The Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship Summer Program, now in its seventh year, is a partnership between the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences (CHSAS), Wright College, and The Eli’s Cheesecake Company. Students have the opportunity to work at the CHSAS Farm, attend a college-credit class at Wright College and participate in a discussion series at the weekly Eli’s/Wright College Farmers Market. The students have finished their first draft of a cookbook with recipe’s they’ve developed over the summer using locally-sourced ingredients. Many talented and innovative minds behind this unique program spoke at the graduation, as well as an outstanding student from the program, Darius Dixon.

Catch This! Juggling Scheduled to Perform at National Cheesecake Day Celebration Along With a Fun-Filled Day of Acitvities!

This talented juggling group will be attending the National Cheesecake Day celebration, along with many other fun activities! Eli’s will be giving away FREE Cheesecake slices at Eli’s Cheesecake World from 9:30am – 2:00pm (one per person). Plain 8 inch sliceIn addition, there will be a free flower arranging demonstartion with Bob Neri at 11:00am, a live performance by legendary Chicago pianist Hal Roach, a free agricultural lecture at 1:00pm with guest speakers JIM BRAUN & DEBBIE HILLMAN (coordinators for the Illinois Local & Organic Food & Farm Task Force and builders of an Illinois field-to-fork food system), and market fresh produce from the weekly Eli’s/Wright College Farmers Market!

Highlights from Redmoon Theatre’s “Momentary Opera” performance during Family Day at Eli’s

Redmoon Theater is a group that “creates theatrical spectacles that transform streets, stages, and architectural landmarks into places of public celebration utilizing an original language capable of speaking across cultural, ethnic, and generational boundaries.DSC_4948

Redmoon Theatre traveled througout the Farmers Market, Bakery Cafe/Retail Store, and bakery to perform for all who attended the event! They plan to be back to perform at the Eli’s Cheesecake Festival in October!

This Thursday, July 23rd, at the Eli’s/Wright Farmer’s Market is FAMILY DAY! Please join us for FREE activities featuring a LIVE performance of The Momentary Opera by Redmoon theater at Noon!

There is also face painting for kids and dance lessons with Dancemates, 11am-12pm. Later, enjoy a sustainable agriculture lecture at 1:00pm with guest speakers MELISSA GRAHAM & ROB GARDNER – Melissa Graham is President & Founder of Purple Asparagus; Rob Gardner is Editor-at-Large and founding member of thelocalbeet.com.

Next Thursday, July 30th, is National Cheesecake Day! To celebrate, everyone gets a FREE slice of cheesecake (one PlainMedper person) 11am-2pm. Other fun, free activities include live music by The Happiness Club and legendary pianist Hal Roach at noon, a flower arranging demonstration with Bob Neri at 11am, and an informative Sustainable Agriculture lecture at 1:00pm with Guest speakers JIM BRAUN & DEBBIE HILLMAN – coordinators for the Illinois Local & Organic Food & Farm Task Force and builders of an Illinois field-to-fork food system. Top it all off with some free samples from our cheesecake bar.

The Farmer’s Market takes place at our bakery, 6701 W. Forest Preserve Drive, Chicago, every Thursday, 7am-1pm, through October 15th.
