Eli’s Celebrates 38 years at Taste of Chicago

Eli’s was ecstatic to participate in the 38th Annual Taste of Chicago! Weare the only vendor who has served food at Taste of Chicago all of its 38 years. From Wednesday July 11 – Sunday July 15, our booth, located near the corner of Jackson and Columbus served:  Original Plain Cheesecake with Strawberries (7 tickets), Turtle Cheesecake (9 tickets), Cookie Cheesecake Smoosh Made with Oreo® Topped w/ Vanilla Ice Cream & Chocolate Sauce (10 tickets), Chocolate Chip Crunch Dipper® (7 tickets), Taste Portion of Original Plain Cheesecake or Lemon Mixed Berry Cheesecake (4 tickets).

Eli’s Cheesecake celebrated their 38th birthday, along with the 38th birthday of Taste of Chicago with a 1,000-pound Birthday Cheesecake,topped with a Giant Cherry Pie this year in honor of this year’s celebrity cake cutters: cast members from the national tour of Waitress, playing at Broadway In Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre July 3-July 22, 2018.

At Noon, under the tent at Buckingham Fountain, Grant Park, we invited Taste visitors to watch the giant birthday cheesecake be lifted off the truck by a forklift, see Eli’s pastry chefs put the final touches on the cake, and play cheesecake trivia games.  After that, we began the Cake Cutting Ceremony, followed by a round of Happy Birthday led by Waitress cast members. Watch Laurel Boger, our Executive Pastry Chef prepare the Big Cake below!

We also had a Foodie Photo Challenge for people to participate in on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. See our three winners below! Winners were awarded Eli’s Desserts and Gear.

Eli’s Cheesecake’s 18th Annual Farmer’s Market: Thursdays, June 14th – August 30th from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Enjoy fresh produce, free continental breakfast,* Eli’s fresh-from-the-farmers market BBQ lunch and weekly themed events

The Eli’s Cheesecake Company will host its 18th annual Farmer’s  Market this summer on  Thursdays from June 14th to August 30th at 7 am-1 pm on the lawn at Eli’s Cheesecake World, 6701 West Forest Preserve Drive (intersection of Forest Preserve Drive, Montrose and Normandy) in Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood. The market will offer a great selection of the freshest locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers from Nichol’s Farm as well as artisan-prepared foods and crafts made by local not-for-profit partners, including neighboring New Horizon Center for the Developmentally Disabled and The Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences (CHSAS), who bring produce and crafts from the farm on their school campus.

Lunch is available al fresco: Eli’s chef shops the market and grills a Summer lunch special from 11am-1pm each day of the Market. Prices range from $6.95-$9.95.

* Complimentary continental breakfast for customers who purchase $10.00 or more in goods at the Market from 8-10 am

National Cheesecake Day…Not just a day…a five day extravaganza: Thursday July 26-Monday July 30th

July 26 (Thursday) at the Eli’s Farmer’s Market. Complimentary continental breakfast* 8-10am and cheesecake and dessert samples all day. Musical entertainment to be announced and July 27 (Friday) – Eli’s Cheesecake at O’Hare United Terminal 3 near the dinosaur from 12pm-2pm.

July 28 (Saturday) – Eli’s culinary team will teach you how to make Cheesecake Cannoli and Cheesecake Sandwiches, as seen in the O List, Valentine’s edition.

July 29 (Sunday) –Classic Car Show and Eli’s Cheesecake Fun

Visit our annual Classic Car Show with over 100 vintage cars from 9am to 4pm. Lunch on the Grill available for purchase. See The Happiness Club, The Jesse White Tumblers flying over a giant cheesecake and enjoy cheesecake bingo, cheesecake hula hoop contest, cheesecake eating contests, take a photo with Eli’s Big Slice mascot and more 9am-4pm (schedule to be posted). August 9, 16 & 23 – Sweet Taste of Summer: Eli’s pastry chef, along with a different celebrity guest each week (Candid Candace and Roxana’s Kitchen) will show you how to create a unique Summer dessert, using freshly picked fruits and vegetables from the Eli’s Farmer’s Market. 10am.

August 23 – Eli’s Drive for School Supplies: For over 12 years, Eli’s Cheesecake has supported its neighbor, New Horizon Center for the Developmentally Disabled, by donating school supplies to its students. Bring a school supply and get a free slice of Eli’s Cheesecake! 7am-1pm.

Illinois Bicentennial Celebration

August 26th – Celebrate the 200th birthday of the Illinois Constitution with statewide birthday cheesecake! Taste of Chicago and Eli’s Cheesecake 36th!

Together Eli’s Cheesecake and Taste of Chicago celebrated their 36th birthday with a 1,500 pound cheesecake. The Big Eli’s Cheesecake had delicious layers of Original Plain and Chocolate Chip topped with fresh strawberries.

After being fork-lifted off of an Eli’s Cheesecake truck, the cast of The Book of Mormon and Spongebob the Musical sang Happy Birthday and helped cut the first slice of Eli’s Big Cheesecake.

The customers for cheesecake went wild at the sight of Eli’s Big Cake and the  multi-layer cake was served to thousands of people! Eli’s Cheesecake shared the event using their very own Snapchat geotag filter for the event. The geotag was a hit and many Snapchat videos were selected to be on the Chicago Snapchat Story.  An annual tradition, Eli’s Big Cake is an birthday celebration not to be missed!

In addition to serving cheesecake, Eli’s Cheesecake’s Executive Pastry Chef, Laurel Boger, provided an informative demonstrations for a No-Bake Cheesecake (recipe found in Eli’s Cheesecake Cookbook). Chef Laurel Boger showed multiple ways to use the batter from the No-Bake Cheesecake including single serve Cheesecake Parfaits and Cheesecake Popsicles.

Today is opening day for the Taste of Chicago! In 1980, founder Eli Schulman debuted the now famous Eli’s Cheesecake at the first Taste of Chicago, making Eli’s the only original vendor still participating at Taste.  Eli’s has sold over 5.2 million slices throughout Taste’s history!  Marc Schulman, Eli’s son and company President, credits Taste for launching the dessert and helping take it from a local favorite, to one of the country’s largest specialty cheesecake bakeries, baking over 20,000 cheesecakes and desserts daily at Eli’s Cheesecake World located on Chicago’s northwest side.

Eli’s Cheesecake Booth #16, located at Jackson and Columbus, will feature Eli’s Cheesecake Smoosh:  Cookie Cheesecake made with Oreo® (topped vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce), Turtle Cheesecake, Original Plain (with strawberries), Chocolate Chip Crunch Dipper (frozen chocolate chip cheesecake on a stick, dipped in crunchy dark chocolate) and Taste portions:  mini slices of original plain cheesecake and Eli’s Honey Mediterranean Cheesecake made with honey produced by the students from the Chicago High School of Agricultural Sciences.

Eli’s is excited to celebrate 34 years with the Taste of Chicago this coming Saturday, July 12th, with a giant 1,000 pound cheesecake. The festivities will begin at 11:30am at the In The Kitchen with Mariano’s Cooking Demo Stage where Eli’s Executive Pastry Chef Laurel Boger will be talking about our NEW Vegan Cheesecakes and what goes in to making a GIANT cheesecake. The celebration will continue at 1pm at Buckingham Fountain for the Big Cake Cutting with special guests: The cast of Motown the Musical and Jeff & Spencer Tweedy! Eli’s Cheesecake is Tradition for One Blogger from D.C.

Yesterday, Jessica from the blog “What a Novel Thought”, wrote about her recent trip to visit her family in Chicago, which according to her family’s tradition includes a stop at The Taste of Chicago, specifically Eli’s Cheesecake Booth. She wrote about how “it was worth the heat and crowds and the loooong walking to go to the Taste and indulge in a slice of fabulously decadent cheesecake”. Her son finally had his first slice of Eli’s at the Taste, and here at Eli’s we couldn’t be more proud! The month of July has many reasons for celebration.  Eli’s Cheesecake and the Taste of Chicago is celebrating its’ 32nd Anniversary, due to Eli’s Cheesecake being at the Taste every year since its opening in 1980. We would also like to mention a Happy 175th Birthday to the City of Chicago.

One of the highlights of the 2011 Taste of Chicago was the demonstration by Food Network Host and Cook Book Author Giada De Laurentiis.
