When my dad, Eli Schulman, passed away suddenly on May 7th, 1988, one of the first calls to my family was from Congressman Dan Rostenkowski. Just three days later, the Congressman went to the Floor of House of Representatives and made the most eloquent statement about Eli, his commitment to the community, his love of politics and his restaurant. Today we join all of Chicago in mourning his loss.
In those 22 years since my dad passed away, the Congressman was most supportive–dining at Eli’s the Place for Steak, touring our Baker, supporting Wright College (both in his beloved 5th Congressional District) and making it possible for us to be part of all of Bill Clinton’s Inaugural Festivities in1993 (with our Big Cake and participation in many inaugural events). We extend our deepest sympathy to the Rostenkowski Family.
