One of our most important partners at Eli’s is the Greater Chicago Food
Depository (GCFD). When we opened Eli’s Cheesecake World on World Food Day in
1996, the inaugural beneficiary of our Eli’s Cheesecake Festival and grand
opening week was the GCFD. This partnership has continued for every Festival and
for regular donations of Eli’s products throughout the year. In fact, our
support resulted us as being named as the Supporter of the Year by GCFD.

For that reason, we were delighted when Starbucks asked us to help them raise
money and provide dessert for the GCFD. Last Thursday, we had the pleasure to
sample the new items that we are providing to all Chicago area Starbucks at 13
selected Cafes. It was a win win for the customers as they got to sample a great
Eli’s Cheesecake or dessert for making a cash donation directly to a GCFD
volunteer. This donation was then matched by 100% twice–first in cash by
Starbucks and second in dessert by Eli’s. In total over $3,000 in cash (enough
to provide more than 12,000 meals) and over $1,500 in dessert.

This was a great event because of the partnership between Starbucks, Eli’s
Cheesecake and the GCFD.

The photo on the left is of the award winning Starbucks at Lincoln and Wilson
on Chicago’s northwest side (just across the street from the Old Town School of
Folk Music). Imagine walking in the store and meeting two enthusiastic (an
understatement) Starbucks barristas assisted by two dynamite volunteers for the
GCFD, part of a delegation of volunteers from SBC, who gave their evening as
volunteers. Our thanks to Tiffany and Alisa of Starbucks and Dwight and Barbara
of SBC for being those special people.

Over at the 24 hour hour Starbucks at North and Wells, the guests had the
opportunity for table service. Our thanks to Jennifer (center picture left) and
her husband, Matt, and our publicist (and my wife), Maureen Schulman (center
picture right) for serving until 11pm.

Finally thanks to the dedicated support of Ilana Shaffer, of the GCFD, for
arranging the event. Illana is pictured below with husband, Marty, and Starbucks
manager, Arthur, who made the evening such a success.
