Chicago woke up to some very sad news this past Sunday. Arnie Morton, the founder of Morton’s Restaurants and the originator of Taste of Chicago had passed away at the age of 83. For all of us in the Chicago hospitality industry, Arnie was a legend, but a legend with a new idea every day. Arnie was an amazing booster of Chicago, who along with my dad, Eli, was a Board Member for McCormick Place.
We were honored when the Sun Times ran the above photo of Arnie at the Taste of Chicago in 1997 sampling a slice of Eli’s Cheesecake. It was Arnie’s dream back in 1980 that created the first Taste of Chicago and gave us the opportunity to take Eli’s Cheesecake to an audience beyond our restaurant.
Thank you Arnie for your devotion to this City and the hospitality industry!
