Eli loved Arlington Park Race Track. When I was growing up, every holiday during the spring and summer–Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day, was spent at Arlington.
Eli would therefore have been very proud when we were invited by Arlington Park to create a special Anniversary Cheesecake by Eli’s for the 2007 Opening Day on Friday, May 3rd in honor of the 80th Anniversary of Arlington and
in tribute to Richard Duchossois, the Chairman of Arlington and the driving force to improve Arlington and racing in Illinois.
Marc and Maureen Schulman present a giant Anniversary Cheesecake by Eli’s in honor of Arlington Park’s 80th birthday and the opening of the racing season to Arlington Park Chairman Richard Duchossois, President Roy Arnold and Village of Arlington Heights Mayor Rita Mulder.
The presentation of the cheesecake was a surprise for Mr. Duchossois. Here Eli’s Marc Schulman tells “Mr. D.” that there will be cheesecake for all attendees of opening day courtesy of Eli’s.
Visiting Arlington Park Race Track is a great way to enjoy Chicago during the summer. Arlington has its own Metra stop, lots of free parking, and entertainment daily. At Eli’s, we are proud to have our cheesecake featured throughout the season thanks to the talented Chefs Michael and Joseph of Levy Restaurants.
The presentation of the cheesecake was made after the 4th race. It was most fitting that the Anniversary Cheesecake from Eli’s was still on display when the bugler called the horses for the featured 5th Race: the Shecky Greene Stakes. Shecky was one of Eli’s best friends and was with Eli whenever he was in town including that same Friday evening nineteen years ago.
It was a great Eli day to have this celebration attended by Orion Samuelson, the most respected voice for agriculture in this country and dear friend of the Schulman Family and Dr.Michael Ruchim of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a lifelong friend of Marc’s and a great friend friend of Mr.Duchossois and Illinois racing. Here Mr. Duchossois is joined by Marc, Orion, Mike and Dr. Chuck Watts, the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs at Northwestern Memorial.
Eli’s participation in opening day would not have been possible without the work of Eli’s Brian Cravens. Here Marc and Brian pose with some very special good will ambassadors of Arlington Park. Note the jockey next to Brian has already “picked up” his slice of the more than 6,000 portions that were given to Arlington Park guests.
We are very grateful to Arlington Park TV host Lauren Massarella for her work in arranging and promoting the 80th Anniversary Cheesecake from Eli’s. Lauren visited our bakery to interview Big Cake Designer Laurel Boger and Head Baker Ramito Garcia. Here Lauren celebrates the success of Opening Day with one of her many friends at Arlington Park.
As part of the celebration of the day, Marc was able to give greetings to Mr. Duchossois in a pre-recorded message from our bakery and the guests at Arlington Park were able to see what goes into creating a special Commemorative Cheesecake.
