Friday, June 10th marked the Commencement Exercised for the Class of 2005 of
the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences. It was an honor for me to be
selected as the Speaker for the Graduation.

It was in July of 2001 that Barbara Valerious, the principal of CHSAS for
most of its history, and Lucille Shaw, the Master Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor,
came up to Eli’s to introduce me to the newly named Principal, Dave Gilligan.
Over the past 4 years, I have been fortunate work with Mr. Gilligan and Ms. Shaw
to help make a difference at CHSAS and its impact on the community.

In working with us at Eli’s and in my visits to CHSAS and at activities like
the Chicago Flower and Garden Show, I learned a great deal about the character
and committment to excellence of the members of the Class of 2005.. There is no
doubt that they will be most successful in their future endeavors in
agriculture, food and in our society.
