January 19th is the Anniversary of Chicago’s coldest recorded day. It was -27 degrees over this weekend in 1985 (a wind chill of -77 degrees was recorded) so we joined the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation in encouraging Chicagoans to bike to work.

Also on that day, San Francisco beat Miami 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX that was played in Stanford Stadium on the campus of Stanford University. It was the following year on January 26, 1986 that the Chicago Bears beat the New England Patriots 46-10 in Super Bowl XX in New Orleans.

Fortunately today’s high was 28 degrees and the low was “only” 11 degrees so the ride was not as inclement as it could have been. The reward of complimentary Eli’s Cheesecake made the ride feel a little sweeter.
