Be sure to watch “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at 7pm (CST) on ABC when Ty, the design team, builder, Norcon, and hundreds of volunteers come Chicago to rebuild a house for the Noyola Family. We are delighted that Eli’s Cheesecake supported the project with donations daily of our cheesecake and other desserts.
The Noyola house is at 1544 South Washtenaw on the west side of Chicago just south of Mt. Sinai Hospital and east of Douglas Park. My family is from the west side as our first restaurant, Eli’s Ogden Huddle, was at Ogden & Kedzie and I was born at Mt. Sinai.
The Noyola Family, with six children, has been living in the Grandmother’s cramped attic. The family was nominated hundreds of neighbors who recognized, Geno and Melinda, the parents, for their dedication to help their children and others. Geno and Melinda support the Angel Tree Network, which helps kids who have parents in prison, the Pilsen Athletic Conference, where they coach over 100 children in sports, and Operation Christmas Child, where they send shoe boxes filled with gifts to under privileged children in third world countries.
All six of the children have learned to play the violin, and five attended the prestigious Merit School of Music. In addition the entire family is involved with sports, cheerleading and bible study.
While the Noyolas have been busy helping others, they had worked hard to buy a home which only happened recently. The home at Washtentaw is just a block away from their Grandmother’s home, but was completely unlivable. None of the bathrooms worked, there was structural decay, water damage, and rodent infestation.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” features team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis, Ed Sanders and Eduardo Xol.
Thank you “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” for coming to Chicago and leading our community to create a beautiful new home for such a deserving family.
The bus is getting ready to “move on” after an amazing week of construction.
Eli’s, Haley Schulman, thanks the design team for visiting Chicago and creating such a great home for the Noyola family.
