One of our favorite visitors to Eli’s Cheesecake World was Burt Wolf, the internationally syndicated television journalist who visited our bakery during his feature on travel to Chicago.

“Real American Food,” just published this week by Rizzoli, draws upon Wolf’s lifetime of travel around the country to produce programming for PBS. The book included trivia and history as it tells the story of each regions contribution to American cuisine.

During his visit to Eli’s, Burt shared with his viewers about the history of cheesecake at the first Olympics in Greece in 776 BC. That cheesecake was made with goat cheese and sheep cheese sweetened with
honey.

For Wolf’s book, we shared a Chocolate Cheesecake Recipe. Bert tells our story and how in the City of a number of specialty bakers, Eli’s has become one of the most famous. He adds that Chicago is the largest cheesecake
market in the country and how Eli’s is its largest specialty cheesecake bakery with production of over 16,000 cheesecakes each day in Chicago.
