Chicago News Anchor Don Lemon Joins CNN as an Atlanta Based Anchor–another fan for Eli’s in Atlanta

Note from Don Lemon at CNN

Hi Marc. Thanks for the fantastic cheesecake sampler. It was a big hit in the CNN Newsroom down here in Atlanta. Everyone’s jealous there’s no Eli’s in Atlanta. Not to worry though. We will order for delivery from time to time.

Chicago Anchor Don Lemon Joins CNN/U.S. as
Atlanta-based Anchor

Don Lemon, a Chicago-based anchor and veteran NBC journalist, will join CNN as a news anchor, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. Lemon will be based in the network’s world headquarters inAtlanta.

“Don won over the Chicago audience with his intelligent, confident style on air,” Klein said. “But Don’s initiative impressed me most. Here’s a true-blue journalist who left the comforts of a Chicago news studio with his own camera in hand, flew to Africa and came back with a stunning series about the AIDS epidemic there. That showed he has CNN DNA.”

Lemon joins CNN after serving as a co-anchor for the 5 p.m. newscast for NBC5 News in Chicago. He joined the station in August 2003 as an anchor and reporter after working in New York as a correspondent for NBC News, The Today Show and NBC Nightly News. In addition to his reporting in New York, Lemon worked as an anchor on Weekend Today and on MSNBC. While at NBC, Lemon covered the explosion of Space Shuttle Columbia, SARS in Canada and numerous other stories of national and global importance.

In addition to NBC5 and NBC News, Lemon has served as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for WCAU-TV, an NBC affiliate in Philadelphia, a general assignment and investigative reporter for KTVI-TV in St. Louis and a reporter for WBRC-TV in Birmingham.

Lemon has won an Edward R. Murrow award for his coverage of the capture of the Washington, D.C. sniper. He won an Emmy for a special report on real estate in Chicagoland and various other awards for his reporting on the AIDS epidemic in Africa and Hurricane Katrina.

He earned a degree in broadcast journalism from Brooklyn College. He has also attended Louisiana State University.
