Northwestern Chicago Campus

Northwestern’s  Chicago Campus has a rich history that ties in directly to the development of the Magnificent Mile and Streeterville. In his remarks, Marc shared the story of how Nathan MacChesney, an attorney and Northwestern Trustee had advocated back in 1915 to create a unified single campus on the current site. At that time, the land was a “dreary expanse of rubble and mud,” which had been developed and beautified by the mid 1920′s when the postcard above was published.

Eli’s Congratulates the Albany Park Theatre Project on Receiving the 2004 Coming Up Traller Award from First Lady, Laura Bush

Several years ago, we learned about the Albany Park Theatre Project
when they received the Susan Berkowitz Award at the Francis W. Parker School
Award. The Berkowitz Award is given annually in memory of our friend, Dr. Susan
Berkowitz, who devoted her professional life to helping children.

We were very impressed by the work of APTP and their work in our
neighborhood; Albany Park only being a few miles from Wright College and Eli’s
Cheesecake World. Since then, we have supported APTP with donations of desserts
for their important events.

We were delighted to see APTP receive the Coming Up Taller Award in
Washington DC as one of top arts prgrams for youth in the country.
Congratulations APTP.

APTP wins the 2004
Coming Up Taller

APTP co-founder and co-director Laura Wiley and ensemble
member Elizabeth Cobacho accept the 2004 Coming Up Taller Award from First Lady
Laura Bush and Dr. Robert Martin, Chairman of the Institute of Museum and
Library Services.

December 14, 2004

Today, eight of us from APTP–co-founders and co-directors
David Feiner and Laura Wiley, and ensemble members Elizabeth Cobacho, Mareva
Lindo, Jesus Matta, Lawrence Muñoz, Ana Ovando, and Sarah Stanciu–are in
Washington, D.C. We are here to accept the Coming Up Taller Award from First
Lady Laura Bush and the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.
Out of more than 300 nominees, APTP is one of only seventeen Coming Up Taller
recipients this year in the United States and Mexico, and the only recipient
from the State of Illinois.

Founded in 1998, the Coming Up Taller Awards recognize and
support outstanding arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity
of America’s young people, and provide them with new learning opportunities and
with opportunities to contribute to their communities. The Coming Up Taller
Awards are conferred annually by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the
Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the
Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. As part of the
Coming Up Taller Award, APTP will receive a $10,000 grant.

In congratulating APTP on receiving the Coming Up Taller
Award, Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois said, “The art that is created by
Albany Park Theater Project is truly beautiful. Moreover, I want to congratulate
APTP on the success of its college guidance program. The fact that over 90% of
Albany Park Theater Project teen artists graduate from high school and enter
four-year colleges is remarkable. There is no doubt that Albany Park Theater
Project has had a profound impact on its teen artists. This is a proud day not
only for me but also the entire state of Illinois

Eli’s Cheesecake Supports the Loyola University Family Business of the Year Award

Chicago is fortunate to have a program at Loyola University dedicated to the
needs of family businesses. Each year this group hosts a dinner, this year at

Eli’s Cheesecake is delighted to be a long time supporter of this annual

our favorite hotels, so the event was made even more perfect by combining the
