Illinois and North Carolina Senators Place Modest Wager on Big Game
The University of Illinois and the University of North Carolina Play Monday
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Barack Obama (D-IL), Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) and Richard Burr (R-NC) put their pride and their appetites on the line Monday by making a wager that pits Illinois Horseshoe sandwiches and cheesecake against North Carolina barbecue.
Obama and Durbin announced that when the Illini win the NCAA Championship game, the North Carolina Senator will owe them North Carolina barbecue with all the fixings. If the Tar Heels win, the Illinois Senators will begrudgingly hand over delicious Horseshoe sandwiches from D’Arcy’s Pint in Springfield and a special Illini orange cheesecake from Eli’s Cheesecake Company in Chicago.
“The only words sweeter than ‘Final Four’ are ‘National Champion,’” Obama said. “The Illini have played like champions all season. Now it’s time to make it official.”
“Last game the Illini demonstrated yet again why they’ve been ranked the number-one college basketball team in the country all season,” said Durbin. “After tonight, I’m confident Coach Bruce Weber and the Fighting Illini will be the ‘National Champions.’”
The Illini and the Tar Heels square off Monday, April 4 at 8:21 PM CT in St. Louis, Missouri.
