Since April 12, 1924 when the mighty call letters of W L S were spoken for the very first time, Chicago and the Greater Midwest have enjoyed 89WLS’s news and talk radio. WLS, which stands for World’s Largest Store, was started by the Sears Roebuck Company to broadcast to farmers, but it now currently owned by Cumulus Media and broadcasts to Chicago and the Greater Midwest residents. Eli’s Cheesecake is proud to help this radio legend celebrate 89 years by providing Chicago’s favorite dessert! Eli’s is a proud supporter of Feeding America and provided a celebratory cheesecake for Feeding America’s 30th birthday on June 26.
Our thanks to Cirque Shanghai Extreme (performing this summer at Navy Pier) for joining us at Buckingham Fountain on Saturday, June 25th to celebrate the 31st Birthday of Taste of Chicago and Eli’s Cheesecake.
After a performance by Cirque Shanghai Extreme, the 2,000 lb. Eli’s Original Cheesecake was served to over 10,000 people with a donation of the same amount to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
When he served as the Congressman of 9th Congressional District on Chicago’s northwest side, which includes Eli’s Cheesecake and Wright College, Rahm Emanuel was instrumental in finding a site in what is now the Wright Campus Business Park for Chicago Paper Tube & Can Company, a more than 100 year old company that was short on space and considering moving to Wisconsin. On Monday, which was also Rahm’s 51st Birthday, he toured the Chicago Paper Tube Facility and also toured Eli’s where we surprised him with a 51th Birthday Cake. At Rahm’s request, the Birthday Cake was delivered to the St. Mary of Providence School, where the residents with developmental disabilities and staff enjoyed the Eli’s creation.

Eli’s Cheesecake Celebrates 30 Years of Great Taste! A happy 30th Birthday to Eli’s Cheesecake & the Taste of Chicago celebrated Saturday as the “Band from TV” led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday!
Members from The Band from TV cut a giant 2,000 lb Eli’s birthday cheesecake, in honor of the 30th birthdays of Eli’s Cheesecake of Chicago and The Taste of Chicago, the country’s largest food festival.
(l-r)Jessie Spencer (Fox’s House), Scott Grimes (American Dad, ER and Robin Hood), Greg Grunberg (NBC’s Heroes and Love Bites), Adrian Pasdar (Heroes, Desperate Housewives), Bob Guiney (The Bachelor and daily host of GSN) and James Denton (ABC’s Desperate Housewives) jo led the crowd in a round of “Happy Birthday” and then cut the supersized treat which was served free to the public. Eli’s is the only vendor that has participated in every Taste and is the #1 dessert since its founding in 1980.
