needy. At Eli’s we are delighted to have supported Luol for all three of his Thanksgiving Dinners this year at the Pacific Gaden Mission

November 21, 2007 – The Chicago Bulls and Luol Deng will provide Thanksgiving dinner for more than 700 visitors to the Pacific Garden Mission (1458 S. Canal Street | Chicago, IL) today beginning at 5 p.m.

Deng, along with the help from his foundation, the Bulls, Eli’s Cheesecake, Randolph Flowers, Hinckley Springs, Fields Auto Group and Infinite Logistics will donate and serve a Thanksgiving dinner and Chicago’s Eli’s Cheesecake to the men visiting the homeless shelter that evening. After dinner, Deng will provide each guest with a Bulls gift to celebrate the holiday.

Deng will also be joined by teammates Joakim Noah, Chris Duhon and Thabo Sefolosha as well as team mascot Benny the Bull as they personally assist with serving dinner to the 700 diners.

The Luol Deng Foundation is dedicated to assisting those in need by providing resources and creating opportunities for a better way of life. With hope, integrity and faith as values, our wellness, educational and recreational programs encourage and promote progress and improvement in our community and in Sudan.

Since 1877, Pacific Garden Mission has been a refuge for those weary of struggling through life’s storms. It is the oldest, continuously-operating, rescue mission in the country. Countless millions have come to the “Old Lighthouse” in Chicago seeking food, shelter and clothing as well as medical and dental care. Many also come seeking the answer to their ongoing struggle

Eli’s Cheesecake Supports Salute to Ag Day at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

This year, Eli’s had the opportunity to participate in the great days in Illinois Agriculture; Ag Day at the Illinois State Fair and on Saturday, November 4th, Salute to Ag Day at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
Football Game. The opponent for the day–#1 Rated Ohio State University

The scoreboard at Memorial Stadium welcomed the participants for Ag Day. The tag line for Illinois Agriculture was shown on the scoreboard “Your Town, Our State, The World” in recognition of the global profile of the Illinois
Agriculture industry.

Guests at the Salute to Ag Luncheon before the game were welcomed by University of Illinois President Joseph White. Other speakers included Chancellor Richard Herman, Dean Robert Easter, and Illinois Secretary
of Agriculture Chuck Hartke.

The emcee for the Salute to Ag Festivities was the Voice of Agriculture in Illinois and the United States, famed radio broadcaster, Orion Samuelson. Before heading home for the Radio Hall of Fame Gala (Orion was inducted in 2003), he took a picture with Eli’s Marc Schulman and Doug Wertheimer, the President of Wertheimer Box.

There were over 1,000 guests attending the Salute to Ag Lunch and they were treated with slices of Eli’s Cheesecakes, Brownies, Cakes and other Specialty Desserts.

The Salute to Ag Luncheon was followed by a relatively close football game that was won by Ohio Score with a score of 17 to 10. The prize for winning the game is the Illibuck Trophy that originated in 1925 with an actual turtle that traveled back and forth between Columbus and Champaign Urbana. Later, a wooden replica replaced the turtle as the trophy.

Eli’s Cheesecake Honored to be served at Rancho de Chimayo Restaurante in the Chimayo Valley of New Mexico

As the son of parents dedicated to operating their independent restaurant, Eli’s the Place for Steak, and Eli’s Stage Delicatessen before it for almost 60 years, I have tremendous respect for those operators who create and perpetuate one of a kind restaurants. It is particularly rewarding when one of those restaurants is an Eli’s Cneesecake company.

It was therefore a special treat to visit and dine at Rancho de Chimayo on the High Road to Taos in New Mexico. We were fortunate to meet Florence Jaramillo, the Proprietor and Visionary to create the restaurant and
nearby guest house. Florence is also a leader in the restaurant industry being recognized by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation with its highest award.

History of Rancho de Chimayo Restaurante

The Chimayó valley is a verdant oasis extending from the foothills of the majestic Sangre de Cristo mountains to the expanse of the Rio
Grande valley. The name Chimayó itself is from the Tewá Indian language meaning superior red flaking stone.

In October 1965, the home of Hermenegildo and Trinidad Jaramillo became Restauranté Rancho de Chimayó. Arturo, Hermenegildo’s grandson, and his wife Florence had an idealistic vision in their plans for the house and land. Their restaurant would preserve the rich traditions of their family and its proud culture.

The setting is comfortable and romantic. Fireplaces radiate warmth into cozy rooms and family photographs hang on the white washed adobe walls. The lovely terraced patio beckons you to exquisite outdoor dining.

In August 1984, the Jaramillo family completed restoration of Hacienda Rancho de Chimayó, Epifanio and Adelaida Jaramillo’s home. Their home has been lovingly renovated into seven guest rooms. Each room opens onto an enclosed courtyard and within each room one finds turn of the century antiques, a private bath, a quiet sitting area and fireplace.

In October 2005, Rancho de Chimayo Restaurante celebrated their 40 year anniversary
