April 14, 2007–A Great Day for Chicago; Chicago named as U.S. entry in bid to host 2016 Olympics

Congratulations to Mayor Richard M. Daley and the members of Chicago Olympic Bid Committee. Today in Washington D.C., the eleven member of the U.S. Olympic Committee picked Chicago over Los Angeles to be the United States entry in the competition to host the 2016 Olympics.

The final decision will be made in will be held in October 2009, when the International Olympic Committee will meet in Copenhagen to choose from five cities, which are expected to include Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Tokyo.

This is a great day for Chicago which has never hosted an Olympics. We are very proud of our record in being a great host for conventions and for hosting the Century of Progress in 1933 and 1934 and the Columbian Exposition in 1893.

Eli’s Provides Dessert for Chicago’s “Stir the Soul” Gala to support Chicago’s Bid for the 2016 Olympics

Over $9.4 million dollars was raised as over 1,500 Chicagoans came together at the Lakeside Center of McCormick Place to support the bid by the City of Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics. It is was our pleasure to make the evening a little sweeter and more succesful by creating a special Chocolate Cinnamon Cheesecake for the guest. Here Eli’s Mary Gale, Maureen and Marc
Schulman toast the success of the evening and the great Eli’s dessert.

It was very fitting for Eli’s to be part of the evening as it was in that room that Eli’s provided the Millennium Cheesecake for the City’s Celebration to welcome the year 2000, that Eli’s made its debut in the foodservice industry industry at the NRA Show in 1985 and that Eli Schulman attended so many meetings as a Chicago booster and board member for McCormick
Place.
