Eli’s cheesecake from the freezer with Clearbrook Farms cherry pie topping

Supermarkets have fixings for a sweet meal

Instead of the usual dine and dash, use Valentine’s Day as an occasion for special family time.

Classic couple’s dinner

For just the two of you, here’s an easy but luxurious dinner I put together at Kroger. Some Kroger locations, such as Hyde Park, have lots of
ready-made food in the deli; at others, you’ll have to rely on some packaged products.

Crab cakes from the seafood counter

Strawberry salad with pine nuts

Filet mignon with brandy sauce and blue cheese

Refrigerated mashed potatoes (I like Bob Evans) and roasted asparagus from the deli

Eli’s cheesecake from the freezer with Clearbrook Farms cherry pie topping

Sofia rosé champagne (so pretty in its pink wrapper)

Kroger is great for the extras:

A dozen roses or a spray of purple orchids

The most elaborate $5 Valentine’s Day card they have: (some play songs when you open them)

Box of Esther Price chocolates

A romantic DVD: I recently saw “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Cactus Flower” on sale.
