Eli’s Big Slice made a special appearance at the Eli’s Cheesecake Cafe at Eli’s Cheesecake World on Sunday
Eli’s Pastry Chef, Juanita Chajon, demonstrated how children and adults can create fantastic holiday desserts by starting with a slice of Eli’s Cheesecake. Eli’s Big Slice expressed his opinion that Juanita’s work was the best!
Diana Moles, Eli’s Director of Research & Development, demonstrated for our guests what makes an Eli’s Cheesecake so special.
My dad, Eli Schulman’s dream, was to create a cheesecake that tasted as good as it looked. We gave families the opportunity to show off their creativity by decorating the top of our Eli’s in the Round with a holiday theme.
All of us at Eli’s are grateful for a long and most successful partnership with Vaughn High School, a Chicago Public School. This holiday season, we are most grateful for the work of the Art Club at Vaughn who brought the holiday spirit to Eli’s.
During the holidays, Eli’s hosts many celebrations for our people, including our annual “In the Night Kitchen Dinner” where we honor our Cookie Bakers and Sanitors who work through the night to bake our unique cookie crust, and our annual Hot Dog Party catered by Larry Estes of Fluky’s on Western and Max’s Catering. Thanks to the talented work of the Vaughn students, these celebrations will be even more festive.

Snow was falling Dec. 1 on the snowmen in the inflatable globe in front of Eli’s Cheesecake World, 6701 W. Forest Preserve Drive. Outside, light snow was falling, dusting the top of the globe, and white lights were glittering on the trees surrounding Eli’s. Inside, students from the 30-member Art Club at Ridgewood High School in Norridge were painting holiday motifs on the windows of the cafe.
“We do this every year – for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Halloween,” said Art Club sponsor Sarah Machaj. “We print out clip art, so the students have some idea where to start. For safety reasons, we only paint a border around each window.”
Students are asked to use bright colors, and they are not allowed to sign their work, Machaj said.
“We look forward to their coming,” said Marc Schulman, owner of Eli’s. “They’re good kids.”
Seniors Katherine Mistal and Gabriella Marti, both of Norridge, share the Art Club vice presidency. “We’ve always done the New Year window here,” said Mistal, 17, adding some finishing touches to a top hat on the Happy New Year window. “We create our own ideas – on site.”
Sophomore Richard Serrano, 16, of Norridge, painted a colorful string of holiday lights around one window and added “Holiday” in script at the top. On a lower window, he painted a chimney, a rooftop and a sliver of Santa’s sack filled with presents. The students use water-soluble tempera paints.
Mistal finished her section of the Happy New Year window with a pair of champagne flutes filled with festive, bubbling – what?
“Sparkling grape juice,” she said quickly. “Of course.”
Eli’s was delighted to join the Wounded Soldier’s Organization in hosting a tour and cheesecake sampling for a group of severely wounded soldiers who visited Chicago from Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
During their visit, the soliders were honored by many Chicago businesses and were honored at the beginning of the Bulls first regular home game.
Over the years, one of the greatest challenges I have faced is where to be at lunch time. Our location on the northwest side is 30 minutes from Michigan Avenue, so a trip to Eli’s the Place for Steak for lunch and back would take up a big chunk of the day.
One of our dreams when we built Eli’s Cheesecake World was to offer great fresh food daily for our neighbors, guests and associates. We have been declared the #1 food tour in the country by “Top 5″ on the Food Network and we want to be to say that we also offer the best sandwich and salads in town, followed by the biggest assortment of Eli’s desserts anywhere.
With the unfortunate closing of Eli’s the Place for Steak at the end of July due to the demolition of our building by Northwestern Memorial Hospital, we have had the opportunity to combine our talents from our steakhouse with the culinary expertise at Eli’s Cheesecake World.
Our weekly Farmers Market barbecues on Thursdays during the summer have become legenday and we want to give our guests the great quality and service that my dad became famous for over his 50 year career in the restaurant business, including operating Chicago’s most popular deli, Eli’s Stage
We were fortunate to have Chef Fidel, a 17 year veteran of Eli’s the Place for Steak, join Chef Antonio, our opening chef at the Eli’s Cheesecake Cafe. Together, they are working to expand our daily (Monday through Saturday) lunch offerings in the Cafe.
Below Chef Fidel is serving homemade pizza, meat loaf and roast turkey.
Come in and join us for lunch soon!
