Business Works Seminar at Wright College Draws Record Crowd of Entrepreneurs, Students and Business Owners

The Atrium at Wilbur Wright College was the perfect location to host the Business Works Seminar sponsored by the Department of Business Affairs & Licensing of the City of Chicago. The Wright Brothers were the entrepreneurs that revolutionized our economy with their first flight on December 17, 2003. It was in 1934 that Wright College opened and was named in honor of Wilbur Wright. In 2003, Wright hosted the 100th Anniversary of Flight Celebration in Chicago and Eli’s Cheesecake created a very special cake in honor of the occasion.

Entrepreneurship has been growing at Wright College under the leadership of Courtney Spino and Kenneth Brown. Here Courtney and Kenneth celebrate the event with Eli’s President Marc Schulman and Wright President Charles Guengerich.

Kenneth Brown was recognized by Mary Lou Eisenhaur, the Acting
Director of the Department of Business Affairs & Licensing, for his
leadership in the Entrepreneurship Club at Wright and for the success of the
Wright College entry in the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise)

Over 300 entrepreneurs, students and business owners attended Business Works. A major draw was the key note speech and workshop by author and entrepreneur, Barry Moltz. Above, Barry with the assistance of son, Daniel, wows the crowd in his workshop entitled “Bounce! The Path to True Business Confidence.” Other workshops at the same time included City of Chicago Contracting 101, Website Considerations for the Business Owner sponsored by SCORE and Market Principles 101 sponsored by the Illinois SBDC/Duman Microenterprise Center at JVS Chicago.

Eli’s Cheesecake honored to be cited for “Living the Dream” in Small Business Management—the leading text book for Entrepreneurs

Since 1961, “Small Business Management; An Entrepreneurial Emphasis” written by the late Justin Longenecker and his associates at Baylor University, has been the leading small business management text book for college students. Over that time, over one million students have learned about the opportunities of growing a business from the 13 editions of this book that have been published as the business world has changed so much.

It was therefore a great honor for all of us at Eli’s to learn that we were named as entrepreneurs “Living the Dream” and being highlighted for how we have utilized the internet to build our business.

The text book points out how we went online with AOL back in 1998 and how we have used the internet to stay in touch with our customers. As you can see from our Blog, we continue to find ways to let Eli’s fans learn more about us and keeping up my dad’s commitment to being a great one on one marketer.

We were also delighted that the text book used the picture of Maureen, Elana and me with Vanna White and Pat Sajak, when we rolled the giant Eli’s “Wheel of Fortune” Cheesecake onto the set of Wheel at Navy Pier during Chicago week. The segment included a visit by Vanna to Eli’s the Place for Steak and was a great way to demonstrate our ties to the City that we love so much.

It is very exciting for all of us at Eli’s to know that future entrepreneurs will learn how to build a business from learning the Eli’s story.
