On Thursday, February 2nd, the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences hosted the Chicago Public Schools Kickoff Rally for Job Shadow Day. Our thanks to famous television journalist and cattle rancher, Bill Kurtis, who was our guest of honor for the determination of when winter will end.

At Eli’s, we look forward to Monday and Tuesday of next week when we are hosting our job shadow students from CHSAS.

Bill Kurtis is joined by the FFA Officers, State Representative Mary Flowers. ETC Chief Officer Jill Wine Banks, LSC Chair and Advisory Board Co-Chair Rouhy Shalabi, Principal David Gilligan and Eli’s, Marc Schulman, Co-Chair of the CHSAS Advisory Board.

Ground Hog Job Shadow Day comes to Eli’s

When the Kickoff Rally for Ground Hog Job Shadow Day at the Chicago High
School for Agriculture Science ends, the real work of the week begins as several
hundred students start their job shadow experience.

At Eli’s we thank Bill Steadman, our QA Manager, and Job Shadow Captain for
arranging “shadows” in marketing, operations, purchasing, customer service and
retail sales.

We were also fortunate to host a busload of students sponsored by the Cook
County Farm Bureau, who visited Eli’s and the U.S Customs office for a behind
the scenes experience at O”Hare Airport.

Pulaski Phil doesn’t see his shadow on Ground Hog Day at the Chicago High School for Agriculture Sciences–Winter to End Soon

For the third year in a row, CHSAS hosted the the Chicago Public School’s kickoff for Ground Hog Job Shadown Day. This is a national celebration
encouraging high school students to “shadow” local business people and other professionals to get an idea of career opportunities. In Chicago, the Job Shadow
is sponsored by the Education to Careers Office headed by Jill Wine Banks, which is committed to promoting careers in vocational education and college prep.

We were fortunate to have Lt. Governor Pat Quinn as our special guest for the CHSAS kickoff. We are fortunate to have a long term relationship with Lt.
Governor Quinn which dates back to 1992 when he was a special guest at our bakery when we hosted then Governor and Mrs. Clinton for a tour of Eli’s and to
learn more about Eli’s U.–our onsite GED training center held in connection with Wright College.

We are very grateful to the Henson Robinson Zoo of Springfield, Illinois for loaning us their Ground Hog for the day. CHSAS is getting its own baby Ground
Hog in the Spring so the students and the community can join in the fun.
