Congratulations Mike Neuhaus and the Wyoming Cowboy Football Team on a great victory over Tennessee

At Eli’s, we celebrate the success of our associate’s children
and their accomplishments in school and in outside activities. We have watched
Mike Neuhaus, son of Mike and Peggy Neuhaus, grow up and have celebrated his
football career at Shepard High School in Palos Heights, at Naval Academy
Preparatory School and now at the University of Wyoming.

Saturday, November 8th was a great day for the Eli’s, Neuhaus
and University of Wyoming families as the Cowboys beat the Volunteers by a score
of 13 to 7 before over 99,000 fans at Tennessee. For Mike Neuhaus, it was a
great day as he intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards to the Volunteers 4
yard line and returned a kickoff for 16 yards. Great statistics for a 260 lb.
Defensive End.

The win puts Wyoming back in post season Bowl contention with
the two final games of the season against UNLV and Colorado State.

Congrats to Mikey (as he was known at Eli’s as a small boy),
Mike and Peg.

Masters of the Gridiron in the Eli’s Cheesecake Family; A 60 year tradition–1947 at Wright and in 2007 at the Chicago Academy and the University of Wyoming

At Eli’s, we welcome the Fall as it marks the start of College and High School Football and our Annual Eli’s Cheesecake Festival.

This year we also celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Eli’s Family participating in College and High School Football. It was in October of 1947 that Eli’s cousin, Glenn “Buddy” Schulman took the field for the Wright College Rams. Weighing 190 lbs. Buddy wore number 40 and played tackle as the Rams took on Morgan Park, North Park, Morton, Grand Rapids, Wilson and LaSalle Peru.

Today the traditon of Eli’s and high school and college football continues as our associates, Mike Neuhaus, Defensive End for the Wyoming Cowboys and Armando Chavez, Defensive End and Fullback, for the Chicago Academy, are playing key roles in the 2007 season–Wyoming winning its opening game against Virginia by 23-3 and the Chicago Acedemy winning its first two games by scores of 34 to18 and 38 to 0.

Mike and Armando are both namesakes for their fathers, Mike Neuhuas, our Operations Manager, and Armando Chavez, Production/Decorating Manager, who collectively have over 35 years at Eli’s. We are delighted to see their children achieve excellence in both academic and sports.

It is also coincidental that the Chicago Academy is located on the original Wright College Campus. Back then Wright had to play its home games at Rockola Field. Today the Chicago Academy is fortunate to have a state of the field directly in back of the school.

We wish Armando, Mike and their teams the best of success this season.

Mike Neuhaus has been helping us at Eli’s since he was a very small child. Mike and his sister, Nicole, now at the Eli’s Cheesecake Bakery Cafe and Taste Co-Manager, were with us at the first Take Your Child to Work Day on February 27, 1992.

Armando Chavez was in the first middle school class at the Chicago Academy. As a senior, he is a leader on the football field and also helps in production at Eli’s.

Armando and Mike continue a great Eli’s tradition in football started by Buddy Schulman for the Wright Rams in 1947.

Two Taste Legends–Charlie Robinson and Mike Neuhaus

Taste of Chicago truly brings out the “Boys of Summer” at Eli’s. It is a a
ten day period when we get the opportunity to enjoy the lakefront, great Chicago
food and music.

For most of the 24 years of Taste, we have had a great next door neighbor in
Charlie Robinson and Robinson’s Ribs. Charlie is a great restaurateur and is
extremely charitable. He is truly a class act. Here I am with Charlie at
Taste.

All of us at Eli’s are very fortunate to have, Mike Neuhaus, our iron man,
manage our Taste operations. Mike is busy during the day at our bakery and is at
the Taste every evening. When you are serving over 130,000 people over the 10
day run of Taste, there is a great deal of planning that goes into the planning,
staffing and operations. Congrats Mike!

When you come to Taste, make it a perfect meal with Robinson’s Ribs for
dinner and Eli’s Cheescake for dessert!
