St. Patrick’s Day Parade Queen, Eileen Kapolnek, and Her Court Visit the Eli’s Cheesecake Bakery Cafe

All of us at The Eli’s Cheesecake Company are delighted to support the St. Patrick’s Day Queen’s Contest. We have a long time tradition to provide desserts (green of course!) for the Queen’s Contest that is held in February at Plumber’s Hall. This year 115 contestants competed to be the Queen or a member of her Court. We are delighted that one of the judges is Maureen Schulman of Eli’s.

A new tradition was created this year when 2008 St. Patrick’s Day Queen Eileen Kapolnek, and Patricia Garrity and Kerry Anne Brennan of the Queen’s Court visited Eli’s Bakery Cafe to help us to get St. Patrick’s Day Dessert ideas from Laurel Boger, our Executive Pastry Chef.

Saturday, March 15, 2008 will be a great day in Chicago as you stop by the Eli’s Spring Dock Sale, enjoy treats at the Eli’s Cheesecake Bakery Cafe and then head downtown for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Eli’s Cheesecake Brings Dessert as the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee Selects it 2008 Parade Queen

One of our richest traditions at Eli’s is our annual participation in the St. Patrick’s Day Queens Contest. It dates back to my dad, Eli Schulman, hosted plumbing industry leaders Ed Brabec and Dan Lydon, as they planned the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade for the City. It continues today with my wife and Eli’s Director of Public Relations, Maureen Schulman, serving as one of the judges for
the Queen’s Contest.

Bob Ryan, emcee of the Queen’s Contest thanks Eli’s for providing cheesecakes for the guests at the Contest.

The tradition of Eli’s Cheesecake bringing dessert to the Queen’s Contest dates back over 20 years ago. It was Eli’s dear associate and friend, Rita Tierney, who suggested Eli’s create a green Irish Mint Cheesecake for the event. Today joined by Eli’s Bailey Cheesecake and Eli’s Original, the tradition
happily continues.

Bob Ryan and Eli’s Maureen Schulman celebrate another successful year for the Queen’s Contest. Maureen has been a judge for the Queen’s Contest most of the years that we have provided dessert. It is the role of the distinguished judges to interview the over 100 applicants each year to pick a Queen that demonstrates “the qualities of grace, sincerity, beauty, sense of humor, poise, personality and wit” that makes this good will ambassador for the Parade so important.
