Dr. Patricia Stanley is the former President of Frederick Community College in Mayland. Earlier in her career, Dr. Stanley served as dean of vocational education, and later as administrator for the economic development and vocational education division of the California community college Chancellor’s office for the 107 college system;
In December of 2006, Dr. Stanley was sworn in as the Department of Education’s new Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges, within the Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE). In this position, Dr. Stanley acts to advance community college interests within the Department of Education and to serve as a point of contact for community college officials.
We were honored this week to host a visit by Dr. Stanley to the Wright Campus Business Park and Wright College. We are very fortunate in Chicago and at Wright to have the support of the Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE). In August of 2005, we hosted Susan Sclafani, then Assistant Secretary of OVAE, for a tour of Wright and lunch at Eli’s with education leaders. In June of this year, we are delighted that Dr.Sclafani’s successor, Troy Justesen, will deliver the commencement address as the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences. This is very exciting as Secretary Justesen is an FFA alumni and the senior Department of Education for the FFA.
Dr.Stanley visits the Eli’s Cheesecake Cafe. Here she meets Eli’s Chef Antonio Rivera, a student in Eli’s U., the onsite educational program that is run in connection with Wright College. Antonio’s daughter is also a Wright College student in the Radiology Program.
Dr. Stanley is greeted at Wright College by President Charles Gungerich, Dean of Instruction Cynthia Cordes and Eli’s Marc Schulman
One of the most successful projects at Wright this year was the opening of the SGA Cafe which features Stewart’s Coffee and desserts from Eli’s with 100% of proceeds going to student scholarships. Above Dr. Stanley congratulates SGA and PTK President Keyla Torres on the success of the project.
President Guengerich hosted a group of 20 students to meet with Dr. Stanley. As a former communnity college president, Dr. Stanley had a keen understanding of the important role that Wright and other community colleges play in our society.The passion of the attending students says a great deal about the quality of Wright students.
