Two Northwest Side residents were awarded this year’s scholarships from the Wilbur Wright College Student Government Association, funded by profits from the student-run SGA Cafe.

Monica Morad, of Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood, was the first-place winner, earning her 12-hours of tuition credit. Duai Ahmad, of Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood, earned the second-place honor and a six-hour tuition scholarship.

Applicants had to write an essay about their education goals and how Wright has helped them achieve those goals.

Morad plans to earn her associate’s degree from Wright and pursue further degrees in broadcast journalism. She said her professors “are able to interact with me and adapt to my personal learning styles unlike universities with larger student populations.”

Ahmad said that the scholarship will help bring her one step closer to her educational goals — “to become a Certified Public Accountant and to help those who are less fortunate.”

This is the second year for the SGA Cafe scholarships, which are made possible through generous gifts from Eli’s Cheesecake and Stewart’s Private Blend Coffee.
