(CBS) CHICAGO It’s a sweet opportunity for one Chicago high school.

Students are teaming up with Starbucks and Eli’s Cheesecake to offer a new dessert treat.

CBS 2′s Pamela Jones reports on a honey of a business deal.

The honey from these bees is about to cause quite a buzz in the Chicago area.

“It’s delicious,” said student Ryan Jameson.

Students at Chicago High School for Agriculture and Science are harvesting honey fro the hives to help make a new treat.

Eli’s Wildflower Honey Bar is produced at Eli’s Cheesecake’s Chicago bakery.

Student Ryan Jameson helped research the bees, but he admits the stinging potential was intimidating.

“I’m more focused on the honey than the bees,” he said.

Tim Martin helped raise the bees.

He tasted the sweet success of their honey in a project last year.

“I think it’s really neat to have some work that I’ve done popular in stores around the city,” he said.

Students have been raising bees at Chicago High School for Agriculture and Science for two years. When they started, they only had two hives. After they entered this latest project, they had to up that number to 16.

“This is an opportunity for them to see the bees pollinating flowers, going to the beehive, the honey being made and being produced,” said supervisor Bryant Biegaj.

Now, students and staff can’t wait to see the fruits of their labor with the bees fly off store shelves. They’ll be at Starbucks stores all over Chicagoland and in Wisconsin.

Sales of the Wildflower Honeybar start Wednesday. They’ll cost $2.25.

Honey of a deal for Eli’s, Starbucks and city school

Coffee giant Starbucks is teaming up with two local organizations, the Eli’s Cheesecake Co. and the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, to bring local residents a new sweet called the Wildflower Honey Bar, which will be available for $2.25 in all area Starbucks outlets starting Wednesday.

The bar’s ingredients include a graham cracker crust, yellow cake, ricotta cheese, almonds and, most significantly, fresh honey from bee hives tended by students at the agricultural sciences school, the only one of its kind in the Chicago Public School system. The school was founded 21 years ago on farmland owned by the Chicago Public Schools in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood on the city’s Far Southwest side. Among the school’s many “firsts,” student Corey Flournoy became the first African American to be elected president of the 500,000-member Future Farmers of America in 1994.

Marc Schulman, president of Eli’s Cheesecake, said he has worked for several years with the agricultural school, and so the school was his first choice to provide the honey for the new bar that will be added to the lineup of desserts and bars Eli’s already provides to local Starbucks outlets.

Eli’s Cheesecake Delighted to Partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Starbucks to help fight hunger in Chicago

What could be a better combination than great coffee from Starbucks, delicious desserts from Eli’s, smiling volunteers and Starbucks associates all working together to fight hunger in Chicago.

Today, Eli’s and the Greater Chicago Food Depository teamed up with Starbucks at 18 Starbucks Cafes in Chicago and Cook County to raise funds and increase awareness of the GCFD and its important mission. In a time when fund raising for food pantries nationally is down and there are more hungry people, the funds are critical for the GFCD to serve so many people.

A perfect team; Leah of the GCFD with Miles and Missy of Starbucks at the Starbucks on West Taylor Street. What a beautiful display!

The success of the GFCD is in large part due to its dedicated volunteers. Here a couple tells the GCFD story and raises funds with Eli’s desserts.

Eli’s People Delighted to Support Starbucks Holiday Angels Toy Drive

At Eli’s Cheesecake, we look forward to supporting our community in every way possible. This Holiday Season, we were delighted to support our great customer, Starbucks, and its Holiday Angels Joy Drive, to support the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation.

Our good friend at Starbucks, District Manager, for the Magnificent Mile neighborhood Starbucks stores, solicited our support and our people responded magnificently donating over 50 unwrapped toys to support the Joy Drive.

It is a great honor for us to have customers who share our concerns for the community and, with whom we can work together with, to bring joy to children for the holidays.

Eli’s People gather together with the gifts that they donated to the Joy Drive.

Starbucks & Eli’s Cheesecake Working together to Help the Greater Chicago Food Depository

One of our most important partners at Eli’s is the Greater Chicago Food
Depository (GCFD). When we opened Eli’s Cheesecake World on World Food Day in
1996, the inaugural beneficiary of our Eli’s Cheesecake Festival and grand
opening week was the GCFD. This partnership has continued for every Festival and
for regular donations of Eli’s products throughout the year. In fact, our
support resulted us as being named as the Supporter of the Year by GCFD.

For that reason, we were delighted when Starbucks asked us to help them raise
money and provide dessert for the GCFD. Last Thursday, we had the pleasure to
sample the new items that we are providing to all Chicago area Starbucks at 13
selected Cafes. It was a win win for the customers as they got to sample a great
Eli’s Cheesecake or dessert for making a cash donation directly to a GCFD
volunteer. This donation was then matched by 100% twice–first in cash by
Starbucks and second in dessert by Eli’s. In total over $3,000 in cash (enough
to provide more than 12,000 meals) and over $1,500 in dessert.

This was a great event because of the partnership between Starbucks, Eli’s
Cheesecake and the GCFD.

The photo on the left is of the award winning Starbucks at Lincoln and Wilson
on Chicago’s northwest side (just across the street from the Old Town School of
Folk Music). Imagine walking in the store and meeting two enthusiastic (an
understatement) Starbucks barristas assisted by two dynamite volunteers for the
GCFD, part of a delegation of volunteers from SBC, who gave their evening as
volunteers. Our thanks to Tiffany and Alisa of Starbucks and Dwight and Barbara
of SBC for being those special people.

Over at the 24 hour hour Starbucks at North and Wells, the guests had the
opportunity for table service. Our thanks to Jennifer (center picture left) and
her husband, Matt, and our publicist (and my wife), Maureen Schulman (center
picture right) for serving until 11pm.

Finally thanks to the dedicated support of Ilana Shaffer, of the GCFD, for
arranging the event. Illana is pictured below with husband, Marty, and Starbucks
manager, Arthur, who made the evening such a success.
