Congratuations to Emily Barr, President and General Manager, and the people of ABC 7 Chicago on the debut of their new State Street Studio.
The site of the studio is already a part of the city’s history. The building originally housed the State Lake Theatre, which opened in 1919. It was designed by Rapp & Rapp architects, who also designed the legendary Chicago Theatre, which is across the street. For more than 60 years the theatre housed live acts and movies before closing in the early 1980′s. It was used as a television studio in 1984 when Oprah Winfrey came to Chicago to host AM Chicago, which soon became The Oprah Winfrey Show
