Members from The Band from TV cut a giant 2,000 lb Eli’s birthday cheesecake, in honor of the 30th birthdays of Eli’s Cheesecake of Chicago and The Taste of Chicago, the country’s largest food festival.

Eli’s is the only vendor that has participated in every Taste and is the #1 dessert since its founding in 1980.

Today, Friday marks the start of the 30th Annual Taste of Chicago. It was on July 4th, 1980 that Eli’s Cheesecake made its public debut at that first Taste of Chicago on Michigan Avenue. As we get ready for the opening at 11am today and for our Big 30th Birthday Celebration Saturday, June 26th at 1pm at Buckingham Fountain, we thank our People, our Fans and the City of Chicago for the great support in making Eli’s Cheesecake the #1 Dessert at Taste of Chicago and a Chicago Dessert Icon!

One week from today, on Saturday June 26th at 1pm, Eli’s Cheesecake will celebrate the 30th Birthday of Eli’s Cheesecake and the Taste of Chicago with a Birthday Party at Buckingham Fountain featuring members of the Band from TV singing Happy Birthday to the Taste and Eli’s. At the preview of Taste at Dominick’s, Eli’s President Marc Schulman presented a replica of the 2,000 lb. Eli’s Cheesecake to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.

To celebrate the joint 30th birthday for Eli’s Cheesecake and Taste of Chicago, the popular local bakery is hosting a 1 p.m. June 26 cake cutting at Buckingham Fountain, featuring the Band from TV — including actors Greg Grunberg, James Denton, Jesse Spencer, Bob Guiney, Adrian Pasdar and Scott Grimes. Afterwards, a 2,000-pound cheesecake will be served free to everyone — as long as it lasts!
Now in its 6th Year. the Richard J. Daley Global Cities Forum brings together the leaders of Chicago’s 28 sister cities and other global municipalities, along with corporate, foundation, academic and civic leaders, for discussions on key urban challenges–this years theme being “New Partnerships for a New Economy.”
Eli’s Cheesecake was honored to join leading Chicago Chefs and Restaurants at a welcoming reception at the Chicago Cultural Center. The Chicago Cultural Center is one of Chicago’s most beloved and historic buildings. Completed in 1897 as Chicago’s first central public library, the building was reopened in 1991 as the Chicago Cultural Center, the nation’s first and most comprehensive free municipal cultural venue.
Dinner was served in Preston Bradley Hall featuring the world’s largest stained glass Tiffany Dome – 38 feet in diameter with some 30,000 pieces of glass ―which was restored to its original splendor in 2008. Following dinner was a Sweet Home Chicago Dessert Reception in the G.A.R. Rotunda featuring Eli’s Cheesecake, Original Rainbow Cone and Art Smith’s Table 52. Guests then enjoyed a performance by Lynn Jordan and the Shivers in the Grand Army of the Republic Hall.
