Thousands of Chicagoans jammed Block 37 across the Daley Plaza today as Mayor Daley hosted a pep rally for Chicagoans to join him, representatives of the Sox and Hall of Fame players like Minnie Minoso, Ron Kittle and Bill Pierce to wish the Sox the best of success in their quest to win the World Series.

Part of the celebration was a wager between Mayor Daley and Mayor Menino of Boston, a great friend of our Mayor, but someone who we hope, will lose his wager. This is the year of the White Sox.

The wager included great foods of Chicago, and in addition to Eli’s Cheesecake, included Robinson’s Ribs, Original Rainbow Cone, Vienna Beer, Stewart’s Coffee, Tootsie Rolls, Connie’s Pizza, Kim & Scott’s Pretzels, Buona Beef and Vienna Beef.

Eli’s created a very special Giant Slice for the Pep Rally

Lt. Governor Pat Quinn is a big fan of the White Sox and Eli’s Cheesecake. Quinn was the only elected official back in 1992 to join then Governor Bill Clinton at Eli’s Cheesecake for a tour and to hear about Eli’s innovative workforce program, Eli’s U. In February of this year, Quinn was the special guest at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, when the school hosted Ground Hog Job Shadow Day for the City of Chicago

Chicago is excited for this series and the great season of the White Sox. The pep rally in Chicago was one of eight around the country as Major League Baseball celebrates post-season play.
